Facsimile

Definition:
(From the Latin 'to make similar').
Reproduction of an original (for example, an image or manuscript with all its individual features.

In making a facsimile, blemishes or other signs of use may also be reproduced, so that the facsimile can often barely be distinguished from the original.

If a library's collections include a facsimile, then the original item (for conservation reasons) will often not be available for public use.
